You wouldn't be saying that if your account got hacked into.

it can be handled in infinitely better ways then locking you out of your account for 24 hours.

Like...?

The only one to blame is you for messing up your passwords how many times.

I wanna hear this "infinitely better" way to secure accounts. And do keep in mind that as we wait, hackers are -right now- trying to access someones account, many infact.

that's fair but i never said it wasn't my fault. I was simply expressing my discontent at the fact that the game penalizes owners of their own accounts in such a harsh way with no way to fix it on their own except waste their own damn time.

as for different kinds of solutions:
send an email to your respective account letting you know someone has tried to do this and let you reset it if it was you making the mistake

send a verification code to your email and have you input it to reset your attempts

give you more control over it in general so it's not such a ballache that i happened to miscount how many numbers i put in my password at a given time.

i mean i wouldn't have been so mad if it told me that it was locking me out for a full day, not just 'Try again later'. Makes me think I don't have to wait TWENTY FOUR HOURS.

That's literally how most everything does it.

If someone tries to brute force your account, the most practical solution is to lock that account for either a set period of time and/or until the owner of the account (or someone with access to it) unlocks it.

It is also leaps and bounds better than simply notifying you via email/text that "btw someone just tried to brute force your account, but we're not gonna do ♥♥♥♥ about it cuz it might be you not knowing your own password. hope it's not a hacker!".

this being the infinitely better way.

Problem is that if the hacker ends up figuring out your credentials before you get a chance to change them, they can do it themselves.

A set-time lock gives you time.

Issue is that if they know your email, which they will if they are trying to access your account, the rest aren't secure.

sure but at that point it's not like you have much else to do anyways. you could say that for anything. 'Steam account hacked? well they know your email, so'. DE could add more forms of verification like second layers of defense in different passwords. They could do something like Steam does with their app, using it as a second layer of authentication. Anything that doesn't make me waste my days off.
