Question for you breeders is: If your dog had to take a C section are they able to have a normal birthing later without issues. My females start litter only had 1 puppy, a large 1. So C section was the best way to go. I was going to breed her once more right away and so she could have a normal delivery earlier  turning 4 yrs old, simply I have heard with people that this can cause a need to do some other C section. Is this truthful in dogs likewise? Should I wait until next wheel? I'thousand simply not wanting to put her in whatsoever undue danger. I was wondering what others take experienced. Thank you for any advice

Cathy

I would recollect that you would be fine to attempt normal birth after-particularly if there is a normal-size litter of puppies inside. Often when there is just one (1) or two (two) puppies they can exist too big for normal nascence-hence the C Department.

Yous should have the bitch'southward vulva examined for the presence of a stricture, which can crusade her to be besides tight for normal birth. The skilful news is, that these are easily corrected.

I would non exist hesitant to breed her again, one time she is determined to not have whatever concrete complications such as a stricture. But, I call back information technology is wise to ever have a competent veterinarian bachelor just in case.

Best Regards,

Bob-O

When having just one or two puppies, those puppies typically tin can grow to be too big to fit through the birth culvert and become through a normal nascence. I had this happen when the second pup out of 3 did a shoulder presentation and thus caused a c-section.
I would admittedlyNon breed her on the side by side heat post c-section -give her an entire twelvemonth to heal internally every bit well as externally-she may appear healed and normal on the exterior, but you tin't come across what might be going on inside. It's in the best interest for your daughter. If your vet checks her prior to breeding (a year later) and everything seems ok, then you can consider and proceed. Keep your vet on phone call when you have that side by side litter just in instance-we did.
My girl went on to have a litter of 9 a year after her 1st litter of 3 requiring the c-section. She whelped the 9 smooth and without issues due to the pups being smaller. The same sire was used as in the first situation merely it proved no problem. Nosotros even had a 3rd litter a yr after the 2nd litter and had seven healthy pups without whelping bug-aforementioned sire once again.
So sometimes things just happen, unfortunately. Best wishes.

Since your female is already older, I would breed her on her next estrus cycle.  If you lot are really hesitant or practise not feel comfortable breeding her on her adjacent cycle, and so wait one cycle. Practise NOT wait more than one cycle. If you expect likewise long at this point y'all may have further problems with formulation and whelping. I have bred a female person on the next cycle following a c-section and she whelped normally.  I take seen many dogs bred post c-section that whelp ordinarily.  Do check with your vet pre-breeding, do an ultrasound pre-breeding if needed and exist set to do some other c-section if needed (if the puppies are big or it is an unusually minor or large litter).

One of my females did non have her kickoff litter until she was 3. At that place were three large puppies, i got stuck (and was dead in the nascence canal) and she needed an emergency C-section. The vet told us that the uterine and other internal tissues really heal very chop-chop and advised u.s.a. that in that location would be no problem breeding the adjacent heat. We did, she had 5 puppies and we were hoping for a natural nascency just got to day 67, her temperature was downwards for more than 24 hours and withal no signs of serious contractions, so nosotros opted or a second C-section to exist safe. All the puppies survived. My vet told me the maxium number of C-sections would be most 3 as later this there is a gamble of scar tissue forming and attatching the uterus to the intestines and other internal organs, making further operatons more risky. She is a very good female and I do intend to breed her one more fourth dimension if possible, obviously very prepared for another C-department if necessary, but on the final two attempts she did not become pregnant. I of her daughters recently gave nascence naturally to 9 puppies, and another is now pregnant, so I am hoping there will exist no hereditary issue with difficult births here... So, I would try for a natural birth, but just in case make the necessary arangements with the vet and be prepared for a C-department. Definitely X-ray the female virtually to her due date to know how many puppies in that location are, this helps a lot when it comes to making decisions. If a second C-section does turn out to be necessary it is all-time if possible to permit natural labour start before operating. And then you will be sure that the pups are fully developed and the female will beginning to care for them more easily due to the hormones that are released during labour.

My girl has had 2 c-sections, a year autonomously. I practice have her bred once again, and I did do it dorsum to back with her last one. It was a small litter and she is in great shape, and in the event she did not excogitate she would notwithstanding be young plenty for me to effort once again. This volition be her last litter, though, I don't feel it's fair to continue to open her upwards.

She did have a hard time caring for the first litter the first 5 days, I call up she was in a lot of discomfort and in shock. Even subsequently she started caring for them she was never that into them. The 2d litter she was an awesome mom. I was really agape of the idea of a c-section at starting time, but I feel much improve about it now. I take not lost a puppy even so, and my daughter is healthy and safe also. I have a wonderful vet that does a great task of sewing her dorsum upwardly.

If y'all get your dog xrayed, your vet should also be able to tell how "ready" they are past the bone calcification.

Our Cira had a c-section due to two puppies, we rebred her on the next oestrus cycle and she was able to accept a normal delivery. Although we were ready for the c-section just in case. Our vet vet when doing the c-section made the smallest inscision that I e'er saw which assist to limit the scaring. When I said small information technology was only 3 inches long dissimilar others that take had this washed.  Hope this helps

Huh. I'grand surprised and so many of you are saying you lot bred your girls right later on a c-section. Nosotros went by our veterinarian, who told us not to do information technology. It didn't cause problems to wait that long at all. We were told it could cause an internal splitting of the uterus if a large litter is carried right after a c-department, so nosotros didn't fifty-fifty retrieve to risk information technology and didn't. Might be ok, but I'd personally not wanna risk my girl.
